![]() We have awarded a grant of £60,000 over three years to the Springfield Community Flat (SCF). It will help parents with English as an Additional Language (EAL) to support their child's education. SCF will recruit two multilingual (English plus either Somali/Arabic/Amharic/Tigrinya), part-time parent support staff to build relationships with parents with little or no English showing them how to be involved in promoting their child's development and learning. Emphasis will be placed on parent-child communication e.g. empathy, attention, listening and speaking, reading and playing and the project will dovetail with the support offered via SFC’s Early Years setting. Parents will be encouraged to improve their own literacy and basic skills by undertaking ESOL classes and will also be assisted in gaining access to additional services such as support and advice for refugees and asylum seekers, debt advice, IT classes, cookery and health related activities.
