£11,610 over one year has been awarded to Stockwell Primary School for their Without Limits project. This grant will help support performing arts activities predominantly targeted at Lambeth low-income pupils. Pupils of all ages will participate in projects supported by the expertise of National and Unicorn Theatre professionals and designed to support studies across the curriculum but particularly in English and Maths.
£18,833 over one year has been awarded to Rathbone for their Inspiring Learning project. Rathbone is a well-established charity in West Norwood that provides a range of services for children, young people and adults with learning disabilities. This grant will help provide 1:1 support with a Youth Engagement Worker, academic support via volunteer tutors, resilience training and access to enrichment activities at the Rathbone youth club two nights per week during term time. The Project is targeted support to young people from families on low-incomes primarily living in the Knights Hill and Gipsy Hill.
£20,000 over one year has been awarded to Norwood and Brixton Foodbank for money management and casework support at the Norwood Centre. Norwood and Brixton Foodbank provides emergency food to clients referred by local statutory and community partners. This grant is first, to provide funding for a new Money Advice Worker who will provide budgeting and money management advice (referring onto specialist debt/benefit advisers as appropriate) for people struggling on low-income and second, to provide some additional support costs for the Foodbank towards their existing specialist advice work. This grant was made possible through donation from local Lambeth firm Winn & Coales (Denso) Ltd.
£24,000 over one year has been awarded to Resurgo Trust for their Spear Kennington 2019-22 project. Resurgo was established in 2003 to help disadvantaged young people rise up and break out of the cycle of unemployment and social exclusion. This grant will help provide a year long employment support programme beginning with an intensive six week course followed by weekly support to find work and regular contact to sustain and progress within employment.
£25,000 over one year has been awarded to Oval Learning Cluster for their Opportunities for Value-Added Learning project. This grant will help provide continued funding to deliver external enrichment focused on building practical skills and confidence beyond the academic curriculum. This is a partnership with the Ben Holioake Learning Centre (BHLC), as well as Chance to Shine and the London Russian Ballet school, and includes: weekly sessions during the school year to develop technical, physical and sports skills, delivered to classes during curriculum time, small lunchtime groups and a week-long summer holiday club at the Kia Oval for children from low income Lambeth families.
£42,000 over two years has been awarded to Van Gogh Primary School for their Nurture Room project. This grant will the introduction and development of a Nurture Group provision within the school to support Year 4-6 pupils who are struggling with education and behaviour. Nurture groups assess learning and social and emotional needs and give the necessary help to remove the barriers to learning.
£44,990 over three years has been awarded to Football Beyond Borders (FBB) for their expansion of their FBB4 Schools Programme in Lambeth. FBB uses football to inspire young people to achieve their goals. This grant will help provide a weekly football themed literacy session and football coaching to Key Stage 3 pupils struggling with behaviour and attendance at three Lambeth secondary schools. FBB harnesses the enjoyment of football to deliver improvements in the attendance, behaviour and readiness for employment for the hardest to reach students.
£75,000 over three years has been awarded to We Rise for their Access All Areas project. We Rise is a Brixton based community business established in 2016, offering careers programmes to inspire successful futures. This grant will help deliver a three year programme to 20 at risk of NEET pupils, working with them from year 9 through to year 11. The programme offers one-to-one coaching, workshops, employer visits, work experience and work based learning to Black Caribbean boys at two Lambeth Schools with the aim of raising achievement, motivation and career aspirations.
£75,000 over three years has been awarded to No. 1 Performing Arts (NOPA) for their Counselling Service. NOPA's aim is to improve inner strength through creative therapies and performing arts. This grant is toward therapeutic services for low-income Lambeth children and their parents to address the presenting and underlying causes of negative behaviours. Services will be delivered via 1:1 and group sessions in 3 Lambeth Primary Schools.
£75,000 over three years has been awarded to Mosaic Clubhouse for their Young Adult Project 2019-22. Mosaic Clubhouse works with people using secondary mental health services but views them as members who co-deliver the service alongside paid staff. This grant will help fund one of four Youth Support Workers, which will allow Mosaic to continue to offer a comprehensive service assisting young people (aged 16-30).
£75,000 over three years has been awarded to Construction Youth Trust for their Early Intervention Employer-led Engagement Programme, which gives young people access to training, education and employment opportunities in the construction industry. This grant will help the programme aims of improving the employment prospects of disadvantaged year 10 pupils at two Lambeth Schools by introducing them to the world of work at an earlier stage and showing a 'clear line of sight' into careers suited to their particular skills and interests.
£75,000 over three years has been awarded to Beyond the Classroom for their Girlhood to Womanhood project. This grant support the delivery of this programme in three Lambeth secondary schools. The programme will work with girls aged 14 – 19 for an academic year, engaging them in group work, training and development and supporting them to deliver peer mentoring sessions and a theatre performance. It aims to empower girls to make informed decisions about their future lives, careers and relationships.
