Latest news about grants for projects and organisations

The Walcot Foundation is an independent grant making trust that seeks to address financial poverty in the London Borough of Lambeth.

We are always interested in applications for both

  • proven projects that provide opportunities for Lambeth residents facing entrenched financial poverty (as opposed to those who have temporarily fallen on hard times) to improve their circumstances and ultimately achieve financial independence (education, literacy, activities to widen young people's horizons, apprenticeships, training, employment, advice, mentoring, personal development etc) and
  • innovative or even risky approaches to tackling economic disadvantage for Lambeth residents.

In addition to Lambeth-based organisations we are always pleased to hear from organisations keen to replicate in Lambeth projects that have been successful elsewhere.

As a Foundation that exists exclusively for the benefit of individuals, our grants to organisations are solely a means of reaching those very individuals.  As such, we expect to be able to trace our grants to specific individuals – Lambeth residents demonstrably facing financial poverty - and to understand how the funded service or intervention has allowed them to move forward along the path towards financial self-sufficiency (or not).  We are much more concerned with quality than quantity in terms of numbers of people worked with.

We are currently looking for preliminary discussions with potential applicants who have experience with or ideas about:

  • What can our Foundation fund that would make the greatest difference to those financially disadvantaged Lambeth young people who are struggling to become literate or numerate?
  • What does it take to engage and motivate a NEET young person or one who is at risk of being NEET?
  • What opportunities would enable young people from financially disadvantaged households to compete most effectively with those from more privileged backgrounds in accessing and achieving in further and higher education and in the workplace?
  • What can be done to address the primary-to-secondary school transition where all too often key gains made for our target population at the primary school level are lost?
  • What are the barriers to breaking benefits dependency and how can they be overcome?
  • How can long-term unemployed individuals receive adequate training that will allow them to enter and retain work, particularly in an economic downturn?

Please note that we expect our grants to be targeted at specific individuals or groups of individuals that meet our criteria as opposed to, for example, whole-school or whole-community projects.

Next application deadline
These are determined individually with each applicant.
