How we 'add value' to our grantmaking
Several years ago we developed what we describe as ‘added value grantmaking’. This was in response to needs we had identified through our work.
It means we can provide free and prompt access to three types of professional service as additional help for those we award grants to.
Our debt and budgeting advice services
Many of our individual applicants carry debt, and have no easy access to professional advice in managing it. We provide that, and the feedback is consistently good. The service is delivered through our grant to Lambeth’s long-established and respected advice service Centre70. Its dedicated Walcot Advice Worker handles over 140 cases a year covering budgeting, debt and benefits advice.
Our employment readiness and job finding services
Likewise, many of those we fund to undertake training or further or higher education find it difficult to access good quality career and job-finding support. We provide that, and again the feedback is good. The service is made possible by our grant to High Trees and the services include careers advice, drawing up training and employment action plans, CV preparation, interview skills, supervised job search help and resources. Beneficiaries are offered drop-in surgeries, one-to-one guidance interviews and contact by email and telephone ranging from one to three times a week.
Our organisational capacity development services
Our third 'added value' service is focused on the organisations we fund or may fund. We developed it because of our interest in organisations working with our target beneficiaries. When considering grants we sometimes identify areas needing development. Examples include a need to strengthen governance or management capacity, or the need for a more robust future-funding strategy. Our capacity-building service allows such organisations to access high quality mentoring and advice. We make a grant to Battersea Arts Centre/CLEN CIC for this purpose.

an added-value grants programme
In recent years these additional services have helped hundreds of individuals better manage their budgets, restructure their debts and gain confidence and skill in job seeking.
Our organisational capacity building services have helped many Lambeth organisations strengthen their governance, operations and fundraising plans.
