Our approach to grants for Educational Field Trips

  1. Grants may not be used to reduce the costs of the trip for every child but instead should be used to subsidise the costs of those for whom cost is genuinely a barrier to participation.

  2. The School should ensure through its own budget (or other sources) that no child eligible to participate will be left behind because of inability to pay.

  3. The School should be certain that those children who have chosen not to participate in the educational field trip have opted out for reasons other than financial concerns.

  4. The School should have a stated policy that it is the School’s expectation that all eligible children participate in educational field trips and that these trips form part of the broader curriculum.

  5. Schools should have a system where children begin paying in installments well in advance of the educational field trip taking place.

  6. Lambeth primary schools must have applied for Lambeth Council’s school journey grant as long as it continues to be available.   Contact: Herfa Thomas-Williams, Administrative Officer, Children & Young People's Service Access, Tel: 020 7926 9612, Email: HTWilliams@lambeth.gov.uk

  7. The costs of the trip should be reasonable.
The application form may be found here. Please apply only if your school can conform to our policy.

We have indicative grant amounts for each Lambeth school. These are based on our overall annual grants budget for schools, assigned proportionally according to the number of free school meals (FSM) pupils. We also use this model to work out an indicative grant amount for non-Lambeth schools educating Lambest-resident pupils.

If your school has already had a grant within the current financial year (our financial year runs 1 April – 31 March), please call or email the Grants Team to discuss whether your school would still be eligible for an Educational Field Trip grant.

Our role is to assist Lambeth residents who are income-poor. This is the basis for any awards to schools. We do not fund 'whole school' or 'whole class' activity.
